About This Place

Nestled in the heart of New York City’s vibrant West Village, Red Bamboo offers a truly exceptional vegan dining experience that delights both plant-based enthusiasts and curious omnivores alike. This cozy restaurant brings together a rich fusion of American and international vegan cuisine, masterfully crafted to replicate the hearty, comforting flavors often associated with traditional meat dishes—without compromising on taste or texture.

What sets Red Bamboo apart is its extensive and diverse menu, featuring crowd-pleasing specialties such as the Barbecue Buffalo Wings and Vegan Wings that boast a perfectly crispy exterior with a tangy, spicy kick that lingers pleasantly on the palate. Fans rave about the Creole Soul Chicken, a panko-breaded, Cajun-seasoned soy chicken dish served with velvety garlic mashed potatoes, steamed carrots, broccoli, and corn on the cob—a soul-warming plate that evokes all the nostalgic comfort of classic Southern cooking, reimagined through a compassionate lens.

Red Bamboo’s heroes—or their vegan sandwiches—are an absolute must-try, especially the Barbecue Steak Hero, where citrus-marinated soy beef chunks meld with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and melted vegan cheddar cheese, all piled high on toasted hero bread. This dish perfectly combines smoky, savory, and umami flavors, creating a hearty, satisfying bite that challenges even the most devoted meat lovers.

The restaurant also prides itself on specialty rice dishes inspired by global traditions: the aromatic Garlic and Scallion Fried Rice carries subtle Filipino influences, while the Ginger Chicken Fried Rice infuses a gentle heat and fresh vegetable medley that balance out the richness of the marinated soy protein. Each entrée arrives plated with care, inviting diners to savor not just the food but the thoughtful presentation.

In terms of atmosphere, Red Bamboo radiates warmth and welcome. The intimate, inviting setting reflects the care put into every dish, making it perfect for casual dinners with friends or quiet solo meals. Guests consistently praise the outstanding and attentive service, notably the kind and personable staff who ensure a seamless and comfortable dining experience.

No meal here would be complete without indulging in desserts like the decadent Death by Chocolate, the sumptuous Brownie Cheesecake, or the crowd-favorite Oreo Cheesecake—each of which combines rich, creamy textures with just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal on an unforgettable note.

Real customer experiences underline Red Bamboo's unique brilliance. Nadine Hemming expresses delight over discovering this “amazing cozy vegan spot” and highlights the delicious Creole Soul Chicken alongside the irresistible Oreo Cheesecake and quick, friendly service. Lindsey Sampson notes that even non-vegans are impressed by the menu, particularly the “chicken” sandwich and BBQ buffalo wings, praising the welcoming ambiance and exceptional hospitality. Meanwhile, Barbara Bt’s enthusiasm for the diverse offerings shines through, especially the chicken wings and popcorn shrimp, underlining the appeal for diners seeking variety and robust flavors.

In sum, Red Bamboo is much more than a vegan restaurant—it’s a culinary haven where creative plant-based cooking meets soulful, satisfying flavors in an atmosphere that feels like a cherished neighborhood gem. Whether you’re a vegan veteran or an adventurous eater, this West Village treasure invites you to savor the joys of vibrant, compassionate cuisine that never compromises on taste or heart.

Really amazing cozy vegan spot in the West Village! The menu is huge and has great options. I tried the creole soul chicken for the first time and loved it. And the oreo cheesecake was amazing! The server was super nice and service was fast.

This place is great! I just think the food is very salty and/or a little sour. My mom came here when she was in collage! Still open and great! Other dishes are probably better than mine. I ordered the veggie lo mein.

Red Bamboo 140 W. 4th. St. New York, NY 10012 Buffalo Barbecue Wings Vegetable Tempura Grilled Bourbon Chicken Coconut Chicken With Pineapple Slices Creole Soul Chicken Sizzling Pepper Steak Oreo Cheesecake Coconut Custard Cake Appearance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Taste: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It is quite the feat to prepare scrumptious meat that isn’t actually meat. Serving American to International vegan cuisine, you will be blown away at how authentic everything tastes. The spicy, tangy, chewy wings are smothered in sauce. Don’t worry about biting into any bones because there’s only a wooden stick in the center that’s easy to remove. If you aren’t a fan of vegetables, the tempura will change your mind. The battered coated veggies was served piping hot. It put a new meaning to broccoli, peppers, and zucchini! The sizzling pepper steak arrived literally sizzling with smoke billowing from the skillet like a locomotive. Between the seasoning and sauce, you won’t go wrong. You won’t be disappointed with whichever chicken plate you desire. My personal favorite was the coconut chicken because of its crispiness with a touch of sweetness; pineapple is a strong backbone to this dish! Cheesecake Factory has a fierce competitor. Even though it’s not actually Oreos, The Oreo cheesecake is so delicious that I would have thought it was made using the prestigious Nabisco cookie! If you are looking for fine dining that is not prepared from animals or their byproducts, check out Red Bamboo. You won’t even notice a difference in this vegan utopia. #RedBamboo #veganfood #tempura #vegancheesecake #westvillagenyc #lowermanhattan #veganfoodporn

This vegan restaurant can please even the non vegans. We tried the "chicken" sandwich, the bbq buffalo wings, and the bbq steak hero. Everything was absolutely delicious! The wings and chicken are a must though. The atmosphere is so so welcoming and warm. Our service was outstanding, and Jade the owner is one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure to meet. They go way out of the way to make sure you have a great experience. Im not a sweets person but they brought out a piece of chocolate cake and I'm still thinking about it.

My favorite types of food are chicken, shrimp, and vegan options!! I love having a platter so I can try more than one delicious thing, especially those chicken wings. I was so full I couldn't try everything, but I definitely plan to come back for that popcorn shrimp. The service was great, so I think I’ll be returning s.

This place is 10/10 in terms of taste, staff and vibe. The food was delicious, loved it. The prices are reasonable and portion size is good. We ordered : Creole Soul Chicken - 8/10 Almond Coconut - 8/10 Tiramisu - 10/10 (The best vegan tiramisu ever) The staff is super sweet and nice, they recommend you the best. So visit here if you are in NYC. There are so many vegan dishes to try, you will be confused! 100% recommended!

A great restaurant with much more to offer than what we ate and definitely worth a second visit if/when we return to NYC. We both opted for their vegan wings, one with the BBQ buffalo sauce and one as the Hot Ones challenge, which comes with a bottle of every hot sauce used in the 24th season to apply as little or as much as you want. The menu is extensive and looks amazing, but we only had time for a light-ish lunch and I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to take on the Hot Ones lineup (as a chilli-head). A place definitely worthy of your custom and support, and one we’ll make certain to visit to try more of their offerings when we can.

One of the best feelings is stumbling upon a restaurant that is unassuming but just offers delicious, no frills food. That is Red Bamboo. Stepping into the restaurant and speaking with the owner, Jade, is like stepping back into a time from when I was younger, before every restaurant was filled with gimmicks or aesthetics and portions were meant to fill you up. It's always nice to support small businesses in these times and especially when the owners are as kind as this one. I had never gotten Filipino food before and did not think I could ever have it as a vegan. I'm glad that this restaurant offers some authentic Filipino food (I had the adobo). For those who may want something different, they also have a wide variety of other foods and desserts. Their wings are some of the best vegan wings I've had. Also for those who don't know, these are the wings that were featured on the Hot Ones with Ariana Grande (the barbecue wings are great). They also offer a Hot Ones challenge for those who want to try some spice. Having been here for 31 years, Red Bamboo deserves more attention. I'd highly recommend checking it out. I think it deserves a spot as a vegan staple in NYC amongst the many others.
